A bit of details: I bought Taiga BIB from a local collector – he was willing to part with Taiga at a very affordable price. I knew I had to get her since e-sucker-Bay usually has her at around 200USD or more. Then I saw a local toy shop still have the exclusive Nendo Hakurei Reimu at also affordable price. (Hm, guess I overuse that word) So here she is. To check where my Japanese level stands, I intentionally bought G’s Magazine and the manga. Well, I’m proud to say I can understand most of them! Last but not least is the heavyweight champion of this month’s loot – A Sony Vaio laptop. Been eyeing for it quite some time, so I could say it’s a dream come true.

Talking about Japanese, I just had JLPT 3 last week. Kanji, vocabulary and grammar weren’t that hard, but listening gave me quite some trouble. Although I can safely assume that it was because the environment of which exposure to Japanese is kept to a minimum extent. My only source of Japanese listening is from anime and JPop. Saber Reimu is praying for me to pass the test. How sweet of her! ^^

Camera phone actually fared pretty well against a digital camera! I’ll experiment more next time but now I’m going back to JLPT 3 again…

来た! Jubei just arrived this morning while Nendo Saber Lily earlier this month.

Ain’t she pretty? I think I need to spend some time to set up my own photo-shooting environment instead of just using my workdesk as one. ^^;; Oh and I need more practice on photo-shooting too.

As mentioned above, I’m cutting down expenses for buying figures. But I still succumbed to a couple of beautiful ones that I simply cannot resist.

The first one – Figma Reimu Hakurei from Touhou Project. I wasn’t into figma until I saw her – Can’t resist the moeness! Well, not a bad choice for the first figma I am going to have, huh. ^^;; She’s an exclusive item but luckily my local shop managed to offer her at a reasonable price. Scheduled to be released in January 2010 but I expect her to be delayed as usual. (BRS, why oh why!)

I admit I’m a total sucker for Ymir. Initially I wanted to pass on her, but two days on the bed and I cannot stop thinking of her made me clicked the PO button. -_-  Loli for the win – Yeah technically she’s a dwarf but the design indicates otherwise. I’m sold. ^^;; Scheduled to be released in April 2010, so I think no delay?

1. My mom was diagnosed with breast cancer. Fortunately it was in first stage – She had a hunch and went for a checkup. God knows  what will happen if she hadn’t had that lucky hunch. After operation she is now undergoing radiotherapy in Singapore. Since Singapore is an hour away’s drive, I now drive her there until the end of the therapy which is next week.
   
2. I’ve moved back from university to help take care my mom. Luckily I’m in my final year so apart from thesis writing and tons of assignments, I have little classes to attend.
3. Thesis is a bitch. I had to write a 100 pages proposal for it. -_- Plus in those annoying assignments, I had a week literally without sleep. Red bull was my best friend that time. And my advice, don’t drink too much of it – It will leave a nasty side effect on you!



4. My dad’s having some problems on reaching the quota for his work. I helped him out whenever he requested me. Factor this in and the time for helping out my mom, I can only do my work in the middle of the night. Luckily I have nice friends who were willing to share my burden – They knew what I am going through and opted to give me less portion of work on assignments.
5. Saber Lily -distant avalon- and Megahouse Alleyne has arrived (10 days ago)! ^^ That’s my only good news…

I also ordered GSC Saber Lily and Megahouse Allean but since those are arriving at my doorstep in October, I guess that sums up my hauls up till September (And hopefully Saber Lily doesn’t get delayed AGAIN).

I’m glad that I didn’t cancel Narika seeing now that she’s out of stock almost everywhere. Looks like she’s going to hit the ‘rare’ status soon. Then again, she is superb! Definitely one of my favorites already. Please do GET her if you happen to encounter her. ^^

Talking about Narika, I’d like to mention how good great the retailer (XL-Shop) shipped her to me.

This was how it looked like when I collected it. Looking at the box (Bandai Soul of Chogokin??), I worried that they had shipped the wrong item to me!

After opening the first layer, my worries became curiosity. Hot Toy Terminator Salvation?? If they really had shipped a Hot Toy to me, I would sell it off for some extra money and then buy another Narika. But then, notice the packaging style – the box is very sturdy and thick, and they even put a lot of carton pieces and newspaper to protect the ‘Hot Toy’.

Looked like my worries and curiosity were uncalled for. But even in that Hot Toy box they put carton pieces to fill in the gaps. This is truly the best packaging I ever seen. You can see the effort they put in to ship their items – To use such a big and sturdy box along with abundant packaging stuffs in case of shipping damage. I’m really impressed – a real contrast with how an eBay seller shipped Queen’s Gate Alice to me.

So in case you did order something from XL-Shop, you can be sure that whatever you bought is in good hand – They still have Narika in stock if you’re wondering .

It was a public holiday, thus the huge crowd.

Project Tunicate

I have finally completed the prototype of TuniBase just before the deadline after countless sleepless night and coffee. This is how it looks like:

I feel so proud of myself. I did it from scratch despite the fact that I have never learned or tried to develop a website, let alone to build a web application database like this. Now I can add at least one more skill into my resume – Website developing. However, that’s one side of the good part; the bad part is that I was required to sign a non-disclosure agreement – That essentially means that whatever I have done belongs to the organization, which in this context it refers to INBIOSIS. >_<”

Sucks big time, huh? But screw them, if they deem it is unappropriate to just post a screenshot of my work on my blog, then go ahead and sue me. -_- Anyway, that’s the end of it and I still have to credit them for giving me an opportunity to learn a valuable skill for my future survival in the real world.

PC Fair 2009

Remember in my previous blog entry I mentioned I worked for other organization? (Busy busy busy)

Actually I was working for Intel as a PC Guru at PC Fair 2009.

My job scope was simple – To promote the Core i7 processor and give advise to the consumers on what processor they should buy according to their needs. (I took this during my break.)

It was a great experience working there – I discovered that I could actually do things that I thought I could never accomplish. The four months I spent living faraway from home expanded my comfort zone. I know I can fly if I am willing to take that extra step.

Another pleasant experience gained from the event – I get to socialize and know more people. On the last day of PC Fair, my colleague, Alan asked me, “You took up this part time alone?”

“Yeah.”

“Well, you’re not alone anymore.”

With my limited English vocabulary, I just can’t describe how wonderful they are. I was the only newcomer, and they didn’t cast me away.

I have never expected myself to accumulate this many mangas over the years.

Made me feel nostalgic. I remember the first manga I bought was Doraemon – And it was no turning back from otakuism. Things just gotten worse after I fell in love with figures.
